Shower Thoughts: Why Insects are Mindblowing

Honestly, I’m not really sure whether this is more of a shower thought or an epiphany from my younger stoner days, but it stopped me dead in my tracks.

What do insects think about, if anything?

Are their tiny bodies more akin to tiny robots, with only electrical impulses motivating them?

Do they just react to their world?

Are they ever frightened?

What really blows my mind is that caterpillars exist.

Do caterpillars know that they are going to turn into butterflies?

Or, are they all like ‘oh shit, it’s time to build this cocoon so that I can completely motherfucking shapeshift into a completely different being?’

Like they make a shell, melt down, turn into total mush and then emerge as this flying thing, when they had loads of legs before. And, they’re just cool with it?

Do they know what will happen?

Or do they just get pulled along by their programming?
