I wrote a vampire book when I was 11
(It was definitely better than Twilight)
Before Twilight was even a glimmer in Stephanie Myer’s ‘imagination,’ one day, eleven-year-old Caroline embarked on a journey of self-discovery that would take two months to complete.
Oh, yes! I had become enamoured with all things horror-related — specifically vampires — proudly at least ten years before emo was even around. This was probably spurred on by the fact that just before this, I had succumbed to an unidentified illness (which remains unidentified to this day) that had kept me out of school (and nearly hospitalised) for most of a month. I had become quite skeletal, couldn’t eat, and all I had the energy for was reading. I had been quite an avid reader before, but now I had developed a taste (must not…do a… blood…pun) for writers like Stephen King.
And somewhere along the way, I found vampires.
Perhaps, it was also the fact that vampires were culturally quite big around this time as well — An Interview with a Vampire was released too.
But I think the film that Francis Ford Coppola’s Dracula was one of the ones that left the biggest impression on me.
There was definitely something very sexy about the whole Dracula character. Gary Oldman was pretty hot as well, but at 11, I really couldn’t put my finger on…
