I think I was spiked
But I didn’t know at the time
‘Are you ok?’ a guy asked. I presume he was a homeless guy that had come over because the situation was crazy.
I replied that I was but I could not open my eyes. I was completely lucid but could only move as if I were made of sand. I could barely hold my head up. I tightened my body up slightly to protect myself and my stuff though, just in case, but thankfully I had travelled light. The man genuinely had seemed to want to help, but in this state I could not trust anyone. Somewhat satisfied that there was nothing he could do I heard him shuffle off.
But what had happened?
How did I end up sitting in an alcove on the street unable to move?
Three hours ago I had met my friend Mike in town for food and a few drinks before we went to my other friend, Joe’s book launch event. I had been friends with Mike for years, but knew that as he was shy and awkward, throwing him straight into a busy place where he knew nobody would be a bit crap for him. I decided to ‘warm him up’ a bit by meeting him first and lining our bellies so we wouldn’t get too drunk. We had two drinks and talked for an hour or two before heading to the launch.
The launch was in a business, but the business, which I won’t mention here, was closed for the day. The place was well decorated and…
