Can we stop being writing snobs, please?
We’re on Medium for the love of Jebus
I love Medium. Even if I don’t agree with the sentiment behind every piece, I think it is an amazing forum to do what you love and potentially earn. Like even if you only earn a tiny bit here and there it’s still worth it to get, what I presume is something you’re passionate about, read, right?
The thing is, I know negativity generates clicks. You just have to look at the regular media to see how that works. Black-and-white articles that present a binary view of the world are generated to create engagement and fighting.
Medium, in a way, is no different — but the thing is that we have control over the content we produce and how we engage with others over theirs.
Now, I’m not saying that we shouldn’t have a debate on certain subjects. I mean, that is where great critical thinking can come from. I’m all about looking constructively at a piece and its content.
What I am trying to say, in my own convoluted way, is that we are a community and need to move away from the snobbery about something that we all collectively love — writing.
I see articles absolutely trashing certain styles of article writing — say, for example, listicles, as if these are not an effective or decent way to convey a message.
